your health as a mountain journey
Goal setting, strategizing, planning, taking actions, training and coaching are all things that come to mind when we think about something big and important we want to achieve.
This is a process that we may implement for a new job or career change, when we get married, think about having children, or want to achieve a certain level of fitness.
Athletes train for their events with the support of a coach. Managers & CEOs may invest in performance coaches to take them to the next level in leading people. Nutrition coaches may be called for, to support diet and lifestyle changes. And if you’re looking to balance your life and for some direction, you may seek the guidance of a Life Coach.
For all BIG things in life, we often seek guidance, plan, implement, review and grow.
Through my own personal experience and now clinically, I find that when it comes to our emotional and mental health, our brain, nervous system and physical health, we are not providing it with the attention that it really needs!
If you were going to run a 1/2 marathon, you wouldn’t turn up to the event without any preparation would you? And if you were going on a day or week-long hike up a mountain you wouldn’t go unprepared, without training, water, food, a map, directions, the right shoes and clothing … you might even do a guided tour with someone who’s an expert of the terrain!
So why is it that we, don’t look at our health in the same way? Expecting ourselves to ‘just be well NOW’, without training, a detailed plan or a guide who has not only walked the path before, but can point out detours and more effective ways of getting there!
an invitation for you
I’d like to invite you, to take a few moments to think of your health journey as though you are going on a ‘Mountain Climb’. And at the TOP is where you want to be, how you want to feel and what you want your health to look like.
With this creative way of looking at your health as a journey up a mountain, ask yourself the guided questions in the following sections below the images.
This process will help you to work out where you are on your journey right now, and what you need to help you get to the top! This is a great ‘check’ to do on a regular basis to see if you are on the right track or need to make any adjustments and improvements.
This is a process I use with all my clients, who, at the end of every session, measure how close to their vision/how far up their mountain they feel they are! With most clients indicating they feel that they are between 20-50% up their mountain after the 1st session! It’s really incredible the change people are able to experience with the right plan and guidance!
Below are a few images, to get you thinking about your mountain, with a google form below that you can fill out and have emailed to yourself with the results – so you can reflect on it at any time! You are also welcome to come back here and re-do the exercise at any time!
