I’m a firm believer that the toxins in the environment have a negative impact on our health and well-being. Obviously, I’m known as the Toxin Terminator!
But, there are other, more innate toxins that can harm your mind, body, and spirit from the inside. And typically, these are a result of difficult emotions that have been suppressed or, in other words, are responsible for negative energy.
This negative energy manifested itself in the physical issues that my wonderful guest on the podcast, Lisa Gumieniuk, faced.
I had a chance to talk to Lisa about her journey to becoming in tune with her energetic self and her passion for health, wellness, and all things ‘woo-woo’.
It's a story of transformation
Lisa never dreamed that she would become the leading health and wellness coach she is today. And she never believed she would be an EFT Level II practitioner.
6 years ago, Lisa was a Type A personality, with a thriving corporate career and an active, physical lifestyle with great friends and a wedding on the horizon. From the outside, you would think that she had it all.
While planning her wedding, she noticed that her energy levels were declining and her health began to fail.
But Lisa didn’t listen to her body and continued to push the boundaries by working out more, eating better, and concentrating on her career. Her focus remained on what she could control from the outside.
Her health deteriorated and she began to suffer from Lyme disease, shingles, and other auto-immune diseases.
While suffering with her physical health challenges, she came to a huge realization. She much preferred to stuff her emotions down rather than dealing with them head on.
Once Lisa awakened to the fact that in order to take care of her body, she had to take care of her emotional and spiritual self. That’s when things started to shift and transform.
Lisa worked hard and dedicated her time toward facing her emotions and manifesting more positive energy in her life. And this is how she became passionate about energetic healing and all the techniques that enhance a positive vibration in the mind, body and spirit.
The body is a vehicle for communication
To understand the connection between the body and our emotions, Lisa laid out a great example.
Recently, she encountered a challenging person at a workshop that caused her to step into that fight, flight or freeze zone.
I’m sure you are familiar with the feeling. Your throat tightens. You are so shocked you can’t even speak. And your heartbeat races.
She felt it in her throat and chest, particularly, because that is place where we hold our difficulty in communicating and in asking for what we want. When we suppress that need to speak out and have our voice heard, this area of the body constricts and experiences this tension.
This caused her to realize that she needed to process her anger and resentful feelings through processes like tapping, inner child work, and visualizations. These are the tools she uses now to really enhance her life and live more fully.
Can you sense the energy in the room?
Sometimes it’s hard to put a finger on the significance behind negative or positive energy.
But Lisa explained it in a couple of ways that make sense.
When you walk into a conference or workshop, meet someone, and you get this feeling that something is off.
Have you ever said to yourself, “That person is toxic?”
Or, when you are at a party and you meet someone who makes you want to spend more time with them because they have “a great energy about them.”
These are all solid examples of this sense of energy that exists among us.
Using color to clear energy
One way to focus on building positive emotions and energy is through healing with color. Color can be an amazing source of energy and vibration and it holds healing properties.
Lisa took the time to pull a color card for me. She pulled the color Sapphire and according to Lisa, blue is a color of regeneration and renewal, and is also calming particularly for the nerves and mind.
The reading really spoke to me in so many ways, especially since the color blue is one of my favorite colors. I am seeking ways to calm my mind relating to some aspects of my life. I have also realized recently that I need to treat my body with more respect and reinvigorate it by eating more healthy and nourishing foods.
With the color blue, she recommended I visualize and reflect on the color. Or even find physical representations of the color blue, like the ocean, to really manifest this quality of calm and renewal.
A lesson in tapping or EFT - Emotional Freedom Techniques
EFT is a common term in the alternative health field and it is a fascinating therapy to deal with pain, stress, or difficult emotions.
Also, known as tapping, EFT is a technique that helps to free your stuck emotions. Since emotions are energetic forces, it is common to have negative emotions ingrained in your body.
Traditional Chinese Medicine is rooted in the idea that there are energy lines that run the length of your body. These are called the Meridian lines.
The practice of tapping mimics the acu-pressure points in the body, in the same way that an acupuncturist would place a needle on the body.
While acupuncture uses the pressure of needles, EFT uses the pressure of your fingers.
Through the process of tapping, you begin by thinking of a phrase in your mind that acknowledges the issue you are going through and that you accept yourself despite the problem.
Then, you methodically tap with your fingers on each of the 9 meridian points on the body while repeating this phrase in your mind.
With continual repetition of the tapping, and by repeating your set up phrase, your body is helping the brain to rewire those negative thoughts and emotions. And slowly, the intensity of the stress, anxiety or emotion dissipates.
Over time the attachment to the negative emotion will loosen and you will feel more balanced because your relationship with that emotion has changed.

Evidence that supports EFT
Science now backs up the case for EFT tapping. Lisa refers to a book called The Science of Tapping by Dr. Peta Stapleton who has conducted clinical trials to establish the connection between EFT and improved health.
It has been found to support and benefit people with conditions like trauma, PTSD, stress, and anxiety.
More often, the problem is related to something much deeper. EFT does a great job at treating the surface issue. And with continued EFT work and support, it is possible to peel back these layers, get to the root cause and feel an immense sense of freedom from emotional burdens.
Essential Oils
Essential oils also help to support the body at emotional, spiritual, and energetic levels. They can assist in releasing these toxic negative energy patterns in the body.
The sense of smell is closely connected to the limbic system which is the emotional center of the brain. This system helps to regulate our emotions and is responsible for our levels of motivation and memory. Tapping is also known to connect with the limbic system.
Stop and listen
The best, practical advice Lisa gives? Stillness.
Bringing more stillness into your day allows you to really listen and attune to the needs of your body.
She always encourages her clients to practice taking the time to stop and listen to what the body is doing, how it’s feeling. Understand clearly what it is your body is trying to communicate to you.
If you’re tired, overwhelmed, riddled with colds or other chronic symptoms, it’s important to step back and observe what may be going on, on an energetic or emotional level.
Then reach out and find some support from your doctor or other alternative practitioners.
There are so many effective treatments like muscle testing, EFT, essential oils, nutrition, and Reiki to support energetic healing. But you need to find the right treatment for you. Find the ones that work and integrate them into your routine.
