This week I wanted to break down an important topic called the window of tolerance. This is something that does not get enough spotlight when it comes to riding the wave of our emotions and it may be the answer to why you feel like you MAY have overreacted in some situations.

The Window of Tolerance Explained

So what is the window of tolerance?

The window of tolerance is the tangible space where you feel like you can handle and deal with whatever emotion, experience or situation that may be happening in your life. You may feel stress or pressure but you CAN handle it – in a calm and controlled manner.

You are best able to cope with stressors and triggers when you are within your window of tolerance.

HOWEVER, a tough experience or chronic stress or illness or trauma can narrow your window of tolerance.

Take a look here:

Whenever you experience something extremely stressing or difficult this can put you into a state of hyper or hypo arousal.

So in those moments when you feel out of control or are having a hard time riding the intense wave of your emotions, feeling out of your comfort zone, this could be due to the fact that you are out of your window of tolerance.

This week I will be diving deeper into the window of tolerance on instagram. Follow me @lisagumieniuk to learn more about it and share this with any friend or family member who could use the reassurance that they are not alone in the ebb and flow of it all.

If you’d like to explore solutions for widening your own window of tolerance so as you are not moving into hyper or hypo arousal, please book a clarity call with me to discuss what working together may look like for you.

Sending love and wellbeing your way!
